In response to J.M.

Dear Editor:

This is in response to J.M. in the March 25th edition. I have three things to say,

1) My family has been here since the 50’s. As far as I am concerned, Washington St., Park Ave., Willow Ave., Clinton Ave., Grand St., Adams St., Jefferson St., Madison St. Monroe St. Jackson St. and Marshall Drive, all of these streets running from 1st St. to 14th St. was all full of Hispanic individuals and families. This is the majority of Hoboken. We built this town through out the years. It was not until the past 3 years that the Hispanic Community has little by little been kicked out. So I suggest you go to school and take a Hoboken History 101 course because there was and always has been a “Spanish Community” or should I say an “Hispanic Community” in Hoboken. Hoboken High School carries a collection of all the yearbooks since the beginning of that school and if you do research on them and research the Hoboken Library and Museum, you will notice that the majority were Hispanic. And they were not out-of-towners. They were residents of Hoboken.

2) For those who do not have reading communications problems, they would have noticed and realized and interpret that my letter was not a racial issue. It was merely an issue about Hoboken City not being affordable and not being helpful to the low-income families in need, who can not afford the all-time high rents and condos. In fact, the Hispanic Communities are denied low-income housing such as myself. So as a second course, I suggest you choose English Interpretation Communication 101 because obviously, it was not a racial issue and you did not pick up the correct message.

3) I mentioned in my letter that I do not support Mayor Russo and his campaign anymore. Instead, let’s stick with Russo’s people for a minute. For instance, Nellie Moyeno has been in his campaign for years. I know Nellie M. personally and she has known my family for years. So instead of asking the campaign that I support with this question, why don’t you ask the campaign in which YOU support and ask Nellie Moyeno if Hoboken has never had a “Hispanic Community”. And if she dares to answer “no” to this question, then she is a disgrace to this town. She of all, knows that there is and always has been a Hispanic community. J.M., the campaign you support will prove you wrong.
