Global warming a very real situation

Dear Editor:

No problems happening on Earth can even compare with the devastation global warming has caused and will cause. The horrors of its destruction are far from over, but we can do something to curb the danger of global warming plunging Earth into worldwide turmoil. Rising sea levels, hotter temperatures, wild weather, thinning Antarctic ices and species’ endangerment are all examples of what global warming has done to us up to this point. Obviously, something has to be done.

However, the obvious to us is oblivion to the one person who should be paying attention to this situation. I am referring to President George W. Bush. Not only did Bush back out of a worldwide treaty known as the Kyoto Agreement, but he also cut 2.3 billion dollars from prevention of global warming. The United States contains 4% of the world’s population, yet produces 25% of all greenhouse gases. This still isn’t enough for George W. Bush to sign a treaty against global warming. Also, when President Bush cut all of that money from global warming, he put it toward prisons and school guards. What good will these things be when our planet is incinerated?

So, over all, I think that yes, global warming is very real and yes, it is a serious situation. It also will have harmful long term effects on this planet. President Bush should reconsider his decisions carefully because he is not only endangering his political position, but the lives of billions throughout the world.
