Bringing the bands Whiskey Bar makes some noise

Find your way to the Whiskey Bar for a night of good music by the area’s top cover and original bands.

Located on Washington Street at the heart of Hoboken’s downtown club scene for a little more than two years, co-owners Jeff Debruycker and Dave Jayce came-up with the idea of opening a mainstream music venue.

“We bring the best bands in the tri-state area for everyone to enjoy,” Debruycker said last week. “We want to make it an experience to come here.”

With Debruycker’s hard work in booking quality acts, the Whiskey Bar has become one of the top places in town for good live music. Their May line-up has so far featured bands like Big Orange Cone, Eugene, Smack Daddy and The Benjamins.

“The bands we get, everyone can listen to, so no one will be offended,” Debruycker said.

Coming up May 25, the band 24-7 takes the stage, and on May 26, DJ Ray performs his own unique blend of what he calls “pop-house” music.

The bar has a small entrance, but looks can be deceiving. Inside, there’s a large bar with three bartenders serving drinks and a smaller bar in the back next to the stage. Before the bands hit the stage around 10 p.m., there is a DJ mixing club and house music.

During the week Debruycker schedules original bands to perform. On the weekends he prefers to have the cover bands.

“Our cover bands are pretty decent,” Debruycker said. “We are always packed on the weekends.”

The cover charges at the door depend on the bands playing the night of the show, he said, but they usually range from $5 to $10.

The Whiskey Bar has a large variety of whiskeys, but they are better known for their beer specials. Each day they promote a different beer. Happy hour is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Domestic pints are $1.50 and buckets of beer, which include four beer bottles, are $8.

“We’re really happy with how the buckets are going,” Debruycker said.

Whiskey Bar is located on 125 Washington St. Their hours of operation are Tuesday through Thursday from 4 p.m. to 12 a.m. and Friday and Saturday from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. For a complete concert listing call 963-3400 or visit them on the web at www.whiskey-bar.com.
