Fatherhood, a lifelong commitment

Dear Editor:

Becoming a father is an important decision; fatherhood requires a lifelong commitment. That’s why, at Planned Parenthood of Greater Northern New Jersey (PPGNNJ), we urge men to share responsibility for family planning. This requires an understanding of what birth control methods are available, how they work and how to protect yourself and your partner from a sexually transmitted disease (STD).

Planned Parenthood encourages men to visit our centers with their partners to become more knowledgeable about all aspects of contraception. In fact, all of our ten centers will treat the male partners of our patients for sexually transmitted diseases (STD’s); and many of our centers are able to treat any man, even if they are not partners of our patients.

By visiting our health care centers, men can show they care and are willing to take an equal responsibility for birth control. Men and women can learn a great deal about preventing unintended pregnancy, protecting themselves from an STD including HIV/AIDS, and reproductive health care by calling and visiting one of our centers. Or, call our Center for Family Life Education in Morristown to request information regarding any of these issues. Their number is 973-539-9580, ext. 120.

With centers in Bergen, Hunterdon, Morris, Somerset, Sussex, Union and Warren Counties, we probably have a location that is convenient for you. To be connected directly with the center closest to you, dial 1-800-230-PLAN.

Wishing all fathers everywhere a Happy Father’s Day from Planned Parenthood!
