Dogs are not people…they’re dogs

Dear Editor:

Can you understand that, you inconsiderate, selfish and ridiculous people? There is a dog run in Stevens Park for your dogs. If you don’t want your dog to wear the leash you are holding in your hands, that’s where they should be. If you insist that they walk and run all over the grass, at least put a leash on them and walk with them, run with them, I don’t care what you do with them, as long as they are not ruining the grass and walks that real people have the right to walk on.

I specifically walk on the concrete walks so as not to ruin the grass or step into something “your babies” have left behind. You’re so busy talking to one another, you don’t even pick up after them. I have spoken to the health officer as well as the police department about this. I will continue to do so and if necessary, will talk to the mayor until you all get a summons. And, before you reply and tell me to “get a life or that I should concern myself with more important things, etc., etc.,” my response is, this is important. I don’t want to have to walk around the perimeter of the park to avoid having your dog jump out at me (and some of the dogs I’ve seen are huge). People have the right to sit on a chair or blanket on clean grass, children have the right to play on clean grass, your dogs have a specific area in which to run free; that’s where they should be.
