Get educated in New Jersey, work in New Jersey!

Dear Editor:

I applaud Acting Governor Donald DiFrancesco for proposing a college scholarship program at Prosperity New Jersey’s June 14 Economic Summit.

The plan calls for a public-private scholarship program aimed at encouraging math, science and technology graduates from the state’s public colleges to begin their work careers in New Jersey. This is a step in the right direction. Within our borders are some of the most successful and prestigious businesses in the world today. We should be encouraging students to go from one of New Jersey’s 54 institutions of higher learning directly into jobs in our state. New Jersey’s incredible job growth, diversity and quality of life must be highlighted and promoted if we are to compete economically with neighboring states.

Prosperity New Jersey, a non-profit public-private partnership that develops strategies for maximizing the health and prosperity of New Jersey, is pleased to see that government and business leaders are addressing this most important issue. A quality workforce in the 21st century is key to our success.
