A poem in memory of the victims and for the Spirit of America

Dear Editor:

Hello, my name is Mary Gonzalez, 38 years old and live in West New York. I work in the West New York Public Library.

On September 11, 2001, our Country suffered a blow unnecessarily in the hands of terrorists. On this day multitudes of people lost their lives and countless others are missing. The perpetrators thought that by doing this they could terrorize America and destroy what America stands for: United, Freedom, Democracy!

The chain that unifies America is ever stronger! Not only Americans are united, but other nations; England and other countries have joined and supported our country in the fight against terrorism. The perpetrators that inflicted this evil are going to suffer a much stronger blow: America is stronger and more unified than ever.

The United States of America will prevail! We will persevere and live on forever! Like the phoenix, the American Eagle will rise up from the ashes, and he will fly higher and stronger than he ever did. This poem was written in memory of the victims and for the Spirit of America, which is invincible, strong, mighty and lives on forever:

Phoenix Rising

I saw the Eagle wounded, His mighty wings covered with soot, ashes and blood, I saw the Eagle falling, falling and my heart was forever broken, Watching as the Eagle lay helpless in the flood.

His enemy watched from a distance, And laughed in a hauty tone, He was certain that with this act of violence He could kill the Eagle with a single stone! I saw the Eagle dying And my heart suddenly stood still. I just couldn’t stop crying, This whole thing made me rather ill! From the heavens a mighty wind covered the earth As the Eagle lay on the ground, And in awe I witnessed a miracle, a rebirth! The Eagle rose triumphant, Flapping his wings around He rose triumphant once again, Nothing, nothing can kill the Eagle, He has a mighty Iron Will! In horror the enemy looked up towards the horizon, Thinking he hit his prey To his surprise he was mistaken, The Eagle has risen! After this horrific day, His Spirit lives on forever…Day after blessed day!

Fire in the sky

Ablaze! The heavens went Ablaze! In an instant all hell broke loose…The Hudson River was turned suddenly into a haze of smoke, fire, sulfur! The Birds hit their Prey With no regards for the carnage, the casualties, the loss! Less than an hour Twin brothers fell Victims of the blood-bath! In perplexity I scratch my head and wonder, What could have prepared us for this horrendous act? In an instant New York City as we knew it was blown away…For no apparent reason whatsoever! The enemy struck down thousands of innocent victims! Now it must answer to our wrath!

Mary Gonzalez

I would like to voice my heartfelt regret for the horrendous attack on the Twin Towers and to the victims of said attack that lost their lives in this tragedy. God Bless America!
