An open letter to the residents of the 4th Ward

Dear Citizens of the 4th Ward:

I’m Nellie Moyeno and I’m running for 4th Ward Council on a platform of stabilizing taxes, affordable housing, sensible economic growth and checks and balances in government. I hope to engage in a meaningful grassroots dialogue and encourage anyone interested in speaking to me or volunteering to call 201-420-6036 or email moyeno4council@aol.com.

I believe we must reduce our local property taxes. As a homeowner, I make this pledge to you. I will not vote for any tax increase, if elected. The outrageous amount of political patronage endorsed by acting 4th Ward Councilman Chris Campos is unjustifiable and must end. Salaried positions, exceeding $75,000 to $110,00 have been given to political supporters, in staggering numbers. Their recent spending and cronyism is out of control and threatens to impose severe hardship on taxpayers, at a time when our economy is uncertain.

With so many qualified professioanls in Hoboken, I find it insulting that the administration has chosen to hire non-Hoboken residents. As progressive as Hoboken is, there is no need to look elsewhere. As your elected official I will lead the fight for the 4th Ward and put Hoboken residents first. I will provide our government with the checks and balances that are necessary to control this spending frenzy.

Unlike my opponent, in this election, I will respect everyone’s right to be heard. Mr. Campos violates these principles openly and without shame. He has been clouded by numerous ethical and legal questions concerning his residency and eligibility to run in this coming election. He has demonstrated a belligerent attitude and complete contempt for the law. Trouble seems to follow him everywhere he goes.

A councilperson must serve with honesty and respect for the sacred and solemn public trust the office commands. As the people’s advocate, I will not incite riots and feed off of people’s problems at public meetings. I will not lie about my residency and eligibility for office. I will not remain silent and support needless spending and patronage for unqualified non-residents. I will not disrespect citizens with differences of opinion. I will not circumvent the law. However, if elected, I will maintain the courage to do the right thing.

Sincerely,

Nellie Moyeno
