I’ll go with the ‘Weehawken and You’ team

Dear Editor:

I wish to respond to the letter from Gayle Humphrey in your April 7 edition. I just wonder why she attended the political event supporting Mayor Turner in the first place. Ms. Humphrey is a vocal member of the Friends of the Weehawken Waterfront who clearly have an anti-development agenda, which puts them at odds with the present administration. This is no secret. Are the “Friends” so desperate that they need to resort to sending in spies to check out the competition and dig up dirt on them at their political events? Ms. Humphrey would have you believe that she went to the event with an open mind. We know better.

Is everything perfect in Weehawken? No it is not. But Ms. Humphrey would have you believe that change for changes sake will solve all our problems. Aside from her personal attacks on the present administration, she mentioned no substantive major issues with the Mayor’s office. Complaining about school play ticket prices…give me a break! She offered no concrete description of her candidates’ credentials or plans other than they were “bright and energetic” and different. I’m sure they are indeed bright and energetic, but personally, I’d prefer to go with the people who have kept Weehawken’s taxes the second lowest in Hudson County without any industrial base to help subsidize the ratable. I’ll go with the people who are running a school district with the highest HSPT scores in the county in spite of never ending federal and state subsidy cuts. I’ll go with the team that has kept crime rates low and declining. It’s hard to compete with success, so when one does not have a real plan or solution, just send spies and make the issues personal. We know better!
