Something smells at the City ‘B’ parking garage

Dear Editor:

I am a Hoboken resident who, unfortunately, sometimes has reason to park in the City “B” garage located on 2nd and River Streets. Let me say that it is a disgrace! The garage is filthy, the elevators are broken, the public restrooms are atrocious and the stairwells constantly smell like urine (I am not exaggerating.) The situation has only gotten worse under the Roberts’ administration. It is embarrassing that visitors to our City often see this garage as their first impression of Hoboken. Other garage owners and parking authorities in the area seem to be able to keep garages tidy, sanitary and in good repair. What is the major malfunction with our parking authority?

As Mayor Giuliani proved in New York, what seem like minor issues have major impacts on everybody’s quality of life. I ask Mayor Roberts, if you can’t accomplish the simple task of operating a decent parking garage, how will you ever handle Hoboken’s more pressing issues like traffic and budget?
