Dear Editor:
Bravo to the Mayor for his plan to crack down on loud motorcycles. I have always wondered how it is that these things are street legal anyway. Can a car that sounds like this pass inspection? And as if the noise from one of these bikes isn’t bad enough (it seems that you can hear them clear cross town), more often than not we are subjected to packs of them, lining up at red lights and gunning their engines together when the light changes. To go half a block in traffic on Washington St. What a thrill.
As to the argument that somehow this is necessary for the safety of the bikers, so that cars will hear them coming, all I can say is I’ve never heard such a load of c— in my life. I’ve been riding a bicycle here for 20 years without the benefit of any motorized sound, and I’ve managed never to get hit by a car. Ride safely and obey the rules of the road, you’ll be fine.
We’ve been tyrannized long enough by these people. Let them know that we’re fed up and we’re not going to take it anymore! (And let’s hope the crackdown includes those idiotic little motorized scooters that sound like giant mechanical mosquitoes.)
