Guttenberg residents urged to get new parking permits prior to strict enforcement Nov. 1

Guttenberg Mayor David Delle Donna and the Town Council are urging all residents to get their new parking stickers prior to strict enforcement of a recently passed new ordinance which technically goes into effect on Oct. 1. “We wanted to cut a little slack to the residents before enforcing the new ordinance,” said Delle Donna, “so we pushed back the enforcement date to November 1. This will give us ample time to make sure all residents are notified of the changes and have sufficient time to acquire their parking stickers before we begin issuing summonses.”

Delle Donna disclosed that the resident permit parking zones were expanded to include the entire township, which has been deluged with a heavy increase in commuter parking that has taken its toll on residents. The only exclusion will be metered zones. Resident parking zones will be enforced Monday through Friday, 24 hours a day, commencing at 12:01 a.m. on Monday and ending at 12 midnight on Friday.

There are three types of parking permits, namely resident, business and visitor. Applicants for a resident parking permit must make application at the Town Clerk’s office either Monday through Fridays between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., Wednesdays between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., or Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon. After Oct. 31, the day that all current permits expire, hours will be Wednesdays between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Resident applicants must bring a vehicle registration, insurance card, driver’s license and proof of residency when applying. Businesses must present a letter from a responsible member of the business or corporation which verifies that there is not adequate off-street parking available to its employees. The letter shall list the names of the employees, the vehicle identification numbers and license plate numbers of their vehicles, driver license numbers, and the normal hours of operation for the business. Visitor permits can be applied for by presenting proof of an issued resident sticker, or proof of residency in the form of a current utility bill, phone bill, deed, apartment lease or notarized letter from the landlord reflecting a Guttenberg address.

Permit fees are $10 per year for resident and business permits, and $2 for a visitor’s pass, which is valid for a 24-hour period.
