Dear Editor:
On Sunday, 15 December 2002, I placed a memorial in the section of Potter’s Field Cemetery that is going to be moved for the Secaucus Interchange Project. It is a memorial of small white wood crosses and a couple of grave blankets in remembrance of those who are buried in this section of the cemetery that most likely will be disturbed and relocated. I have also personally placed a grave blanket and a white wooden cross in the older section of the cemetery at the foot of the gravel road leading to the hill further down New County Road. This was placed in remembrance of my third great-grandfather James Brew who died at the Hudson County Lunatic Asylum in North Bergen (now known as Secaucus) 13 October 1884. All I know of his burial is that he is located in plot number 509.
As you are well aware, there are no longer any markers at this cemetery due to the neglect of Hudson County Authorities who did not maintain or protect the Potter’s Field Cemetery for many years.
