The Alcoholic

Alone he sits in a dismal room
this precious friend of mine
Losing control of his mind and his soul
just wasting valuable time
His family now shuns him
while the friends he has are few
I pray that God will help my friend
to start his life anew
He does have one companion
who stands by him through it all
She’s there to lift his spirits
her name is Alcohol
She’s cunning and she’s treacherous
so far beneath his level
She dwells within his body
where she shacks up with the devil
May he cast his eyes toward Heaven
Seek out the Master of us all,
Beg Him for the courage
to be rid of Alcohol
Attend those A.A. meetings
before it is too late
Else he will find, before his time
He’ll be at St. Peter’s Gate
