Vote for the candidate that shares the same ideals and values as you do

Dear Editor:

As much as I enjoy and look forward to reading your newspaper each week, I feel it necessary to correct a factual error you reported in your March 9th edition. Your page five story regarding the upcoming Board of Education election refers to me as a “former Elwell ally.”

That’s not accurate. I’ve supported Mayor Elwell since he first opposed former Mayor Anthony Just because I believed then, as I believe now, that he would be much more progressive and business oriented to operate the over $50 million business operation that the Town of Secaucus actually is.

Your other suggestions that I “may have played a role” in this year’s School Board election is also inaccurate. While I have often times helped candidates in various elections when asked during the past 30 years, I have not been active for a few years, despite rumors to the contrary.

I believe public service is a sacred trust and a noble calling. I believe citizens receiving the great blessings of living in the democracy should feel an obligation to participate in that democracy.

And I believe to that end, we have the obligation to vote and support those men and women who share the same ideals and values as we do, no matter what our individual ideals and values may be.

I strongly urge the people of Secaucus to follow next month’s school election, to determine for themselves what each candidate stands for, and to participate in the election by voting for any candidate who shares the same ideals and values you do.
