Re: Parking…

Dear Editor:

I just read the letter written by “MLF, Hoboken resident.” I agree with MLF 100 percent. I live on Ninth Street between Jefferson and Adams and if I’m not home by 6:30 p.m., I am certain to ride around for about a half hour looking for parking. The “resident only” signs that were posted go ignored. There are many cars parked in the area that have out of state plates, no resident sticker and some not even a temporary pass in their windows.

The new complex that was built, “Columbus” not only has an indoor parking garage, they also have private spots outside their complex; however, I have seen many residents park their car along Adams Street and walk to their complex. They park on the side with the resident only signs and don’t have a resident sticker. I truly believe that when a condo is purchased or rented, a parking spot should be included in the price, not extra, because as MLF stated, why should they pay these high prices for a parking spot when they could pay the City $10 a year?

In addition, weekends are more than just a free-for-all. It’s impossible to get a parking spot after 5 p.m. At this moment, many people are not taking the City seriously. You have these signs posted, but action is not being taken for those who are not residents and/or are residents who want to keep their registrations out of state.

Lastly, when will the City start enforcing “resident only” parking? Are we paying the City $10 a year for nothing? Will the side streets also have the “resident only” signs installed, and if so, when?
