Dear Editor:
I got to know Daniel deCavaignac during our one-year tenure as parking commissioners; during that same period I also got to know Nino Giacchi who was a member of the traffic and transportation sub-committee of the City Council.
I remember a conversation with Nino when relations between the administration and the Parking Authority started to deteriorate. I told him that I wanted nothing from the commissioner appointment but to make a difference in Hoboken. I got the impression he believed everyone wants something for himself. Nino has a relative on the city payroll and possible aspirations of a judgeship.
As vice chairman of the Parking Authority, Daniel worked several days a week assisting with technology projects such as completion of the 916 garage, the automated revenue processing equipment and the computer interfaces between the garages. He is the author of the resident parking ordinance which might help the parking crisis if the city, one year after the passage of the ordinance, would complete erecting signs throughout the city.
Daniel will owe nothing to any special interest except the voters of his ward. He has a good job in the private sector, is a homeowner and is a father of two daughters who some day will use our school system.
As a member of the Council, Daniel will use his head and heart to introduce and support good legislation — he deserves your support.
