Dear Editor:
I am a life-long resident of Hoboken and sad to say I’m disappointed in the residents of Hoboken. I work on 5th and Washington Street and always see our emergency vehicles struggle to get through traffic. I remember when an emergency vehicle was in route to a fire and/or hospital, sirens screaming, all traffic would come to a stop, including pedestrians crossing the street. Nowadays, not only are people trying to scramble to cross a street, but cars also race in front of the emergency vehicle, make turns in front of the emergency vehicle or in a recent incident a fire engine was trying to make a left turn onto 5th Street, but a car coming in the opposite direction got in the way.
Seriously, my fellow neighbors, think of it this way; how would you feel if an emergency vehicle couldn’t get to your home or family member’s home in time?
Hoboken residents let’s give our police, fire and ambulance drivers a break and brake for them.
Sincerely,
Debra Morrissette
