To my 21-year-old college graduate daughter on Father’s Day

Dear Editor:
The 21 things you found I was right about:

1. Make sure you know someone who can unclog the toilet.
2. Sinatra was cool!
3. Make sure he loves you more than you love him.
4. Learn how to fix a flat because I can’t!
5. Know that girls are smarter than boys at all ages — no debate necessary.
6. Enjoy orange juice with or without pulp.
7. Don’t pay $10 for an Apple Martini.
8. Diplomacy is choosing the one idea from among all the cluttered thoughts in your head.
9. Always remember Veteran’s Day and Birthdays.
10. Friends need you more when they are dead wrong than when they are right.
11. Showing up and being on time are habits that others will value and remember.
12. Develop a good sense of direction and learn how to tell three jokes well.
13. Visit your deceased relatives at the cemetery at least twice a year. Bring a folding chair and talk for awhile.
14. A good shower is like knockin’ on heaven’s door.
15. Mothers have a unique relationship with their daughters, something fathers cannot figure out.
16. E-mail and cell phones are overrated and over-utilized.
17. A suntan once in a while is a nice thing.
18. Remember the line from Good Will Hunting, “You dropped $150,000 on an education that you could have gotten for $3 late charges at the local library.” (Only kidding)
19. The Lord’s Prayer, Gettysburg Address and I Have A Dream are short and great to know.
20. The Grand Canyon is not a hole in the ground and Niagara Falls is not a bunch of water.
21. Fix the toilet yourself!

Happy Father’s Day from a very wise Father.
