Compared to the crowds that gather on weekend nights, Sunday brunch at The Gaslight Restaurant, Bar and Lounge on Adams Street in Hoboken is a quiet affair. When I showed up last weekend, outside seating was still available, and most people seemed to be eager to enjoy the pleasant weather. I chose to sit inside, but that was just as nice because the back room is well lit during the day, thanks to the large skylight covering a good portion of the ceiling.
The menu is well-rounded and gives plenty of options. The staff is friendly, and the atmosphere matches the mood of a slow Sunday morning. The meal was relaxing and enjoyable, no one was in a rush. It was a delightful way to start a Sunday.
Everyone starts out with a small bowl of fresh yogurt and granola. The yogurt is non-fat, but I thought it was satisfying. A basket of pastries were also placed on the table for everyone to enjoy. It included croissants, small danishes and coffee cakes. I had a tasty croissant, but I didn’t want to ruin my appetite by filling up on cakes.
Brunch also included two drinks for each diner. You have your choice of draft beer, mimosa, Bloody Mary, Bellini, orange juice, coffee or tea. Since I was relaxing with a friend I chose two mimosas, and even ordered a third toward the end of the meal.
The brunch menu is limited, but there are still about 15 choices. I chose the cinnamon swirl French toast, which came with home fries, bacon and fresh strawberries. I was glad I didn’t fill up on danishes, because I needed the room. The meal was good, although there was nothing that stood out.
I also tried the BLT sandwich. It came with French fries and an additional side of bacon. This plate had enough bacon on it for everyone at the table to enjoy.
Some other brunch items that caught my eye were the breakfast wrap with scrambled eggs, bacon, tomato, Monterrey Jack cheese, onions and sour cream rolled up in a tortilla, and the crab cakes, which come with garlic horseradish.
