Dear Editor:
At our November 5th regular meeting, the Union City Board of Commissioners voted to adopt a resolution supporting the reauthorization of the New Jersey Transportation Trust Fund and increased dedication for local aid.
This fund is so very important to Union City and to all of Hudson County because it supports and funds necessary street repairs. As our infrastructure ages, repaving projects become necessary not only so the streets look better, but for safety reasons. Uneven, broken pavement and concrete contributes to motor vehicle accidents and pedestrian difficulties in using our streets and sidewalks. However, while the need to make these repairs becomes greater, our municipalities’ and country’s ability to fund these repairs become less.
We are fortunate, and thankful, that the New Jersey Department of Transportation funds these projects for our communities, aiding local governments in rebuilding and maintaining our streets and roads.
I urge all local officials and residents to join us in supporting the reauthorization of the New Jersey Transportation Trust Fund and increased dedication for local aid.
Brian P. Stack
Mayor
