Let freedom ring

Dear Editor:

In an exercise of freedom, my neighbors and myself had posted signs on the homes that we own, supporting Mayor Brian Stack and the “A” Team in the upcoming November 4th election.

On Monday morning, to our dismay and shock, someone had trespassed on our property, thrown eggs and vandalized the signs by cutting them up and removing them from our private residences; our privacy had been invaded.

As citizens in a democratic society, we have the freedom to express our opinions and the right to participate in the democratic election process. Our community is made up of many people who fled countries not as free as ours is. Countries that are run by regimes that are oppressive; who silence people by brutality and scare tactics.

To my friends and neighbors who came from such countries; don’t let this destruction stop you from expressing your opinions. And to my friends and neighbors, who like myself, were born in this country, don’t take freedom for granted and let this pass as something we should come to accept.

There are those who are trying to intimidate us. They feel if they invade our private property and rip down signs, one by one, block by block, that they will silence us.

To those people, I say and many of my neighbors say, we are now only more determined to exercise our freedom.

Respectfully,
Diane R. Capizzi
