Dear Editor:
Many years ago, in P. S. 105, The Bronx, I was taught about the checks and balances in government designed to prevent the executive branch from having absolute rule. It made sense then and continues to make sense now.
We presently do not have any checks and balances in Hoboken government as the City Council is controlled by the Mayor. Worse yet, three council members have vested interests in keeping the Mayor happy: Council President Ramos’ mother is a city employee, Councilman Giacchi’s mother is a city employee and Councilman Campos is a county employee.
The election of Michael Russo to the Third Ward council seat will be a start to restoring the balance of power. Michael’s independence of the public payroll will permit him to vote his heart and conscience without fear of reprisal.
Whether you have been in Hoboken for your entire life or only a year or so, you owe it to yourself, your neighbors and your city to support Michael Russo for Council.
