Come support your local authors! On Sunday, Dec. 7, the city of Hoboken has teamed up with the Friends of the Library, who will be sponsoring the Hoboken Authors’ Book Sale and Book Signing. North Jersey’s Model Train Show, featuring more than 4,000 square feet of model train layouts, will be held through Dec. 7 by the Society of Model Engineers at 341 Hoboken Rd. in Carlstadt. Also on display will be the Society’s collection of historic railroad memorabilia. This collection includes the world’s largest display of illuminated rail signs. These signs, which hung from the Observation Cars at the end of many famous passenger trains, now serve as a reminder of the golden days of travel by rail. The holiday arts and craft fair comes to Jersey City. Jersey City resident Rikki Reich will showcase her photographs of New Mexico at the restaurant Ginger and Spice in the Harborside Financial Center in Jersey City. The exhibit will run through Jan. 3. Reich’s works are photographs in sepia/selenium toned silver gelatin that present a timeless beauty in their lack of reference to location or era. They are also a metaphor of the journey of life within the remnants of 19th century adobe architecture, according to Reich. In her abstract expressionistic style, the photographs speak to the unconscious about hidden realities and the natural progression of decline and rebirth, which give rise to new forms.
