Regarding opposition to Goldman Sachs huge lit-up logo billboard on top of building

Dear Editor:

I urge people to strongly oppose the Goldman Sachs plans for an outrageous, insulting, obscene, greedy, Jersey City skyline-desecrating application for a massive illuminated “Goldman Sachs” logo, 45 by 45 feet, on both the eastern and western side of its new tall building. Their employees’ volunteer work in JC is terrific, but the company’s signage attack must be rejected by the JC Planning Board at its December 2 meeting.

Please help prevent the cheapening and bastardizing of our waterfront. Please show that Jersey City people do care very much about our city, its skyline and its image. Jersey City will be laughed at and looked down on if this is allowed. It will signal that JC has no dignity.

If this monstrous sign goes up, the whole waterfront will become one continuous string of lit up logo billboards. The whole waterfront and our civic pride is at the core of whether Goldman Sachs bullies its logo onto our waterfront. People passing by in the river, for instance on cruise ships, will think we live in Goldman Sachs City. By word of mouth, people will get to know who built that building. This sign was not on their original plans. Please tell the Planning Board to stand up for our city’s image and not bow down to Goldman Sachs like JC officials in the past let the railroads exploit JC for their profits. Put our pride over their profits. Our city image is priceless and shouldn’t be sold down the river.

I urge people to attend the Planning Board meeting at City Hall on December 2 at 5:30 p.m. or to write the JC Planning Board Chairperson and Commissioners in care of The JC Division of Planning, 30 Montgomery St., 4th Floor, JC, NJ 07302.
