As winter continues its icy grip on the region, local residents have begun to wonder if they will ever see the seasons change. But according to the calendar, spring is just 27 days away.
Last week, The Reporter sampled local residents’ thoughts on what they’re looking forward to about spring.
“I am really looking forward to playing ball with my kids and just getting outside. I want to put my sneakers on and run around in the grass with my kids. Get back into running, too. I haven’t run in three weeks – it’s just too cold.” – Verizon worker Mike Van Valen while working in West New York
“I am really looking forward to playing some basketball and maybe a little football over at [the park]. There’s a lot of room over there.” – West New York Parking Authority worker Abad Pena
“I am NOT looking forward to the warm weather. I actually like the cold weather. However, I do like the warm weather because folks come into my store more. In the cold, nobody comes in.” – Betty Jo Lamar, owner of the Tickled Pink Petunia antique shop on Park Avenue
“Actually, I’ve been doing this job for over 10 years, and I am actually used to the cold. The springtime is nice, though. They let us start to wear shorts in the beginning of May, and I look forward to being able to do that.” – Union City Letter Carrier Erwin Subia
“I am just looking forward to the warm weather, and I am reminded how much as I stand here in the cold at this bus stop.” – Union City resident Brian Youngs
“I am looking forward to better weather, warm breezes. I like to go to the park with my kids and take them out to picnics. When it’s warm, they know that Mom and Dad will be taking them out.” – Union City Letter Carrier Amisha Patel
