Am I getting senile?

Dear Editor:

My fallible memory leads me to believe the government just passed a Medicare Bill. Also that the A.A.R.P. defended it on the basis that at least it was a foot in the door and a revision in the future could correct its shortfalls. My confusion lies in the fact that during all of 2003 and many years prior to that 30 Toprol XL pills cost me $11 (U.S. currency) monthly. Now with the help of our illustrious leader, Congress and the A.A.R.P., I’ve started 2004 with the dubious benefit of paying $26 U.S dollars monthly for 30 Toprol XL pills, monthly. The confusion is: Are we better off today than we were under the Clinton administration? With all the above agencies on my side I’m having so much trouble with my arithmetic.
