Starry skies, silver screen

Where else can you watch a great film while the lights of Manhattan twinkle in the background? Hundreds of Hoboken residents turn out each week for Movies Under the Stars, a local tradition for the past decade. This summer’s lineup offers something for just about everyone.

Movies Under the Stars are shown each Wednesday evening in June, July, and August on the lawn at Pier A Park. You’ll know when it’s movie night – the streets are full of people of all ages, and it seems they’re all heading to the park with blankets and picnic baskets in hand.

According to Geri Fallo, Hoboken’s cultural affairs coordinator, about 800 to 1,200 people turn out to enjoy each show.

The movies begin at dusk. In June and July, show time is at 9 p.m. In August, the films start at 8:15 p.m. But show up early for the best seats.

Movies Under the Stars are presented by Mayor David Roberts, the city of Hoboken, PNC Bank, and Projected Images of Hudson County.
