Dear Citizens:
My name is Vince Lombardi and I am writing to inform you that I am running as an independent Democratic candidate for Hudson County Sheriff in the Primary on Tuesday, June 8th 2004.
I am a life-long resident of Hudson County, having been born, raised and educated in Hoboken. I have over 15 years of experience in both the law enforcement and public safety fields, having served as the former Chief of Public Safety for Long Island University’s Brooklyn campus. I am a active duty Hoboken Police Detective and Union President of P.B.A. Local No. 2.
It is my opinion that Sheriff’s Department and its 200+ fully trained Sheriff’s officers are a valuable policing asset to the county, but have been underutilized and isolated from countywide policing involvement for too long.
I am NOT aligned with the political machine therefore I am not beholden to the politicians. I will do what is in the best interest of you, the County Resident and Taxpayer, not the politicians. If given the opportunity to serve as your County Sheriff, I will take bold new initiatives to reorganize and redeploy the Sheriff’s Department, expanding its responsibilities to ensure a maximum level of police services.
To ease your county tax burden, I will aggressively seek and obtain State & Federal funding in the form of Grants and similar funds to allow the Sheriff’s Department to become diversified so that every municipality in the county will be provided with essential police services that would otherwise be cost prohibitive.
I will seek to merge the Hudson County Corrections Department into the Sheriff’s Department to enhance efficiency in county law enforcement. Throughout the State the vast majority of County Sheriff’s Departments have such a combined work force. During my tenure as your new Sheriff, I will expand county road patrol services, maintain a hard line Traffic Enforcement program, which will include a Anti-Drunk & Aggressive Driving Task Force to best keep our all of our county roads safe for travel. I will initiate an Anti-Gang Task Force, utilizing existing personnel to combat increasing gang activity and violence on our Streets and in our Schools. I will police our roads, waterways, transportation centers, public utility infrastructures as well as bolster own Homeland Security to best safeguard against the ever present threat of future terrorism in our county. These will be among my top priorities and I will work tirelessly to ensure that these bold new county policing strategies are accomplished.
If you would like to see your Sheriff’s Department work for you, and transformed into one of the most efficient, progressive County law enforcement agencies in the State, vote for me on Tuesday, June 8, 2004 as your New Hudson County Sheriff.
