Hoboken residents (from left) Sarah Weber, choreographer; Joseph Gallo, writer/co-producer; and Frank Licato, director; have teamed up to present Tannhauser: The Play at the Ice Factory festival in Manhattan. Through pop songs, contemporary dance, and video this distinctive production transforms Wagner’s opera into an adult-content adaptation about the Web’s hottest husband-and-wife porn site. The Puerto Rican Cultural Committee presents Baile Cangrejero, a lively music and poetry concert that pays tribute to the African influence in Caribbean and Latin American cultures, this Friday, August 6. Baile Cangrejero, performed by Pregones Theater in Spanish and English, also incorporates live music. The show brings to life the poems of Nicolás Guillén of Cuba, Manuel del Cabral of the Dominican Republic, Nicomedes Santa Cruz of Peru, and Luis Palés Matos, Fortunato Vizcarrondo, and Julia de Burgos of Puerto Rico. As part of the Shakespeare in the Park series, several performances of Cymbeline will be held in Hudson County. In Hoboken, performances will take place on consecutive Mondays: August 9 at Pier A Park and August 16 at Sinatra Park. Jersey City performances will be held on Thursday, August 5, at Hamilton Park; and on Thursday, August 19, in Van Vorst Park. The aforementioned shows begin at 7 p.m. Another performance will take place at Ellsworth Park in Union City on Thursday, August 12, at 8 p.m. All performances, presented by the Hudson Shakespeare Company, are free to the public. Hoboken’s Concerts in the Park Series will feature a mariachi band this Thursday, August 5. The concert will be held in Sinatra Park, located on Sinatra Drive between Fourth and Fifth streets. Admission is free, and the show runs from 7 to 9 p.m.

Summerfest, a free music series at Liberty State Park in Jersey City, will present a concert by the John Lesko Orchestra featuring Linda Torchia on Sunday, August 8, from 6 to 8 p.m. The Muzzy Trio will perform on Tuesday, August 10, from 7 to 9 p.m. All shows will be held in the CRRNJ Terminal Plaza, where free parking will be available in the striped terminal lot. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.

An Outdoor Flea Market will be held in the Frank Vincent Marina in Kearny this Saturday, August 7, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. New merchandise, collectibles, crafts, and a garage- and tag-sale section will be offered. The last performance of this summer’s Musical Mondays, a series of cabaret performances featuring popular standards and classic favorites, will be held on Monday, August 9, at Shipyard Park in Hoboken. The free show begins at 7 p.m. Bring a blanket or lawn chair for seating.

The Monday Movie Series at All Saints in Hoboken will feature Stage Door on Monday, August 9. The screening will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall of All Saints, located at 701 Washington St. A discussion will follow the movie, and guests are encouraged to bring popcorn. Admission is free.

As part of Union City’s Film Festival in the Park, Casablanca will be shown on Tuesday, August 10. The film begins at 8 p.m. in Ellsworth Park, and admission is free.
