Union City’s rich history must be preserved

Dear Editor:

I would like to thank Mr. Leane and Mr. Sanger, in response to my questions, for informing me about future historical preservation efforts under consideration for Union City. A few options are under consideration for the Roosevelt Stadium site, and it seems likely that Union City will have an Exempt Firehouse Museum on 44th Street and Palisade Avenue.

In addition, it is my understanding, that ways are being considered to best preserve the documentary history of the former Simon Silk Mill on 39th Street in our city. I encourage our interested residents to talk with Mr. Leane of the Redevelopment Office and Mr. Sanger of the Board of Education to get the most current information on how Union City will strive to preserve its rich history as it pertains to the above sites.

It is particularly gratifying to know that there are plans for the Union Hill History Club to have an important role to play at the future museum. I especially appreciate Mayor Stack’s efforts to ensure that Union City’s rich history with antecedents in Union Hill and Wet Hoboken will continue to be hallowed and perpetuated now and for future generations to come.
