At Home Powerhouse of Attorney: Downtown loft appeals to local legal analyst

When she’s not sparring with Bill O’Reilly or Nancy Grace as a “legal talking head” on cable TV, criminal defense attorney Kathleen Mullin is busy settling into her new home in the Waldo Lofts, in the Powerhouse Arts District. Jersey City Magazine asked to take a look at the legalist’s pad, and she had no objections.

Mullin bought her 1,400-square-foot, two-bedroom apartment in February, sight unseen, and moved in – along with her dog Hudson – this spring. The building’s location 10 minutes from her New York City office warranted the purchase, she says.

Mullin previously lived in Lower Manhattan and, more recently, at the Jersey Shore. But neither suited her needs. “I didn’t have any space [in New York], but I was right in Manhattan,” she says. “Then I moved to the beach, where I had tremendous space but I couldn’t get to work in any reasonable amount of time.”

What she needed, in legalese, was a change of venue. And there was a great case to be made for moving to Jersey City.

“In this area, you could get a bigger place – bigger ceilings, bigger square footage – for a reasonable amount of money and actually be closer to the PATH and downtown Manhattan,” she argues. “This provides me with the best of both.”

Also provided are floor-to-ceiling windows with views of New York, loft-style ceilings, and an eclectic group of neighbors, including artists, professionals, couples and singles. Mullin’s verdict: “It’s just a great building all around.”
