Kevin Bacon in town for enviro show PSEG Global Green Expo next weekend at LSP

What do celebrities Jeff Corwin, Deidre Imus, Ted Danson, and Ed Begley Jr. all have in common?

They will be among the featured speakers at the PSE&G Global Green Expo, taking place this coming Friday, Saturday and Sunday – April 25, 26 and 27 – at Liberty State Park in Jersey City. They will talk about their environment-related endeavors.

The three-day expo will also feature interactive workshops and programs, and family entertainment with music provided by the Bacon Brothers, the music duo of actor Kevin Bacon and his brother Michael.

It will also boast the latest eco-friendly products, programs, services, and information from hundreds of exhibitors and nonprofit organizations.

The expo comes a few days after Earth Day, which falls on April 22.

A portion of the proceeds from the expo will be used to plant trees to offset greenhouse gas emissions in Liberty State Park, and to fund a statewide environmental literacy program for New Jersey school children.

Among those who will be present at the expo is Sam Pesin, the president of the advocacy group Friends of Liberty State Park (FOLSP), which will have an exhibitor table present at the expo.

“The Global Green Expo will be a truly inspiring, empowering, and pioneering event for our state’s residents of all ages,” Pesin said. “I’m delighted the Expo will be held in Liberty State Park, our green open space waterfront park behind Lady Liberty.”

Also scheduled to exhibit at the expo is the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission (NJMC).

“The Meadowlands Commission has been very proactive in the area of renewable energy and reducing dependence on greenhouse gases,” said NJMC spokesperson Brian Aberback. “I think it is important to share with other people and learn what other companies are doing in terms of green building and renewable energy.”

The expo is organized by the PSEG Group, the home company of the utility company PSE&G (Public Service Electric and Gas) in New Jersey. The company operates one of its largest and oldest power plants in Jersey City.Info on the expo

Back in January, the kickoff for the expo took place inside the CRRNJ Terminal in Liberty State Park.

There, Ralph Izzo, the Chairman of the Board, President, and CEO of the PSEG Group, spoke about what he expected from the expo.

“While we fully expect to be a celebration, I don’t want to lose sight of the intention of the event,” Izzo said. “And that is to not only inform, but to inspire both dialogue and action around what can be done not only on Earth Day but throughout the year.”

Izzo continued, “We are putting our deeds into action.”

Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy welcomed the expo to Jersey City, citing the importance of such an event in New Jersey’s second largest populated city.

Healy also struck an environmental tone during his speech by pointing out his dislike for plastic bags, and encouraging the public to look into driving more energy-efficient cars.

“We are grateful that PSEG has chosen our city, this park and this site but we think it was a wise choice,” Healy said. For more information on the expo, visit www.pseg.com Comments on this story can be sent to rkaulessar@hudsonreporter.com
