Job well done

Dear Editor:

As a parent, a lifelong resident, a recreation league coach and a pure baseball fanatic, I offer my congratulations to the entire 2008 WHS baseball team, which finished the season at 18-7 and competed for the north 2 group 1 championship. Although they came up short in the championship game, it does not diminish their team accomplishments or tarnish the great season these young men produced.

The Indians started the season by losing four of their first seven games but won an amazing 15 of their next 18 contests, some of them by nail biting late inning rallies. Of their seven losses, three came at the hands of the eventual north 2 group 1 champions, and two other league games were lost by a combined three runs. It was also a pleasure to witness a fantastic fan base especially the student body who regularly showed up to both home and away games to cheer on the team while exhibiting tremendous school spirit. My gratitude and appreciation for the team’s total dedication and commitment which resulted in such an exciting baseball season goes out to Kelly Hogan, Edgar Montilla, Mike Martinez, Anthony Alicea, Andrew Nasti, Orlyn Molano, Richard Pressler, Derek Strandberg, Ruben Vaquiro, Ray Feliciano, Jeremy Abreu, Guy Mongelli, Anthony Stratton, Fernando Fuentes, Mike Ortiz and Dave Chavez.
