WILLIAMS, JACQUELINE PLATT LEDBETTER. Services for Jacqueline Platt Ledbetter Williams, 59, a longtime educator, were held Oct. 26 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Jersey City. She died Oct. 20 at the Barbara Cheung Hospice, Edison. Known as “Cookie,” she was born in North Carolina and came to Jersey City with her family in the early 60s, living in North Brunswick. In 1979, she graduated with honors from St. Peter’s College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history with a minor in secondary education, and in 1990, received her master’s in educational administration and supervision from St. Peter’s College. From 1979 through 1994, Williams taught social studies, chaired her department, and was principal of summer school at St. Anthony’s High School. In 1990, she became assistant principal of academics. In 1994, she began work with the Superior Court of New Jersey as a probation officer for Hudson County, one of two officers assigned to the Domestic Violence Unit. Williams returned to teaching in 2001, and was coordinator of the Social Studies Department and a classroom teacher at Lincoln High School before becoming vice principal at Middle School 4 in 2005. Survivors include a son, Alfonso Williams III, and his wife Dana; two brothers, Danny Randolph Ledbetter and Alexander David James Jr.; an aunt, Mildred Ledbetter; three brothers-in-law, Tyrone, Darrin and Berry Williams; three sister-in-laws, Sharon Wiliams, Gloria Williams Morris and Yvette Williams; and two grandchildren, Alfonso IV and Avery Danae.
