Out of this world! Sanchez gets invite to NY premier of War of the Worlds

Henry Sanchez, the Bayonne resident, whose home was use for filming of a portion of the upcoming epic, War of the Worlds, has been invited to the New York premier on Thursday, June 23, at 7 p.m. The event will benefit the American Red Cross – of which Sanchez is a member.

“I’m thrilled to be invited,” Sanchez told the Bayonne Community News last week.

The unveiling of the film directed by Steven Spielberg and staring Tom Cruise will be followed by a gala supper party at the Rose Center for Earth and Space on the upper West Side of Manhattan.

Sanchez had been hoping for an invitation since the film crews concluded their work last June, although he has become the center of international attention due to his enviable role as host for the main character.

“I really wanted this,” he said.

War of the Worlds is expected to premier officially in Tokyo on June 16, and will have its official release on June 29. The newly constructed theater in Bayonne will hold its own premier of the film on June 29 to which local dignitaries will attend. Bayonne is also hosting a War of the Worlds night on June 24 to mark the historic role it has played in the production of what is certain to become a Spielberg classic. This night will include the reenactment of the 1939 Orson Wells radio broadcast, whose script was said to have inspired Spielberg to make the film, as well as the presentation of the 1953 film version of War of the Worlds.
