It was determined by a judge yesterday that Luisa Medrano, the Guttenberg bar owner whose testimony resulted in jail terms for former small-town Guttenberg Mayor David Della Donna and his wife Anna, will not get any jail time for her own crimes, according to a newspaper story today.
Medrano, a friend of Anna, gave Anna gifts during their friendship, including cash and a dog, prosecutors said. Prosecutors alleged that the gifts were attempts to get favors regarding Medrano’s bars and property she owned. Medrano was indicted in 2005 for allegedly helping sneak Honduran women into the country and then using the women in her bars to perform illegal acts. She and others allegedly threatened to harm them if they did not do so.
