Mayor Healy announces another run for mayor

Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy announced his run for reelection on Thursday in front of over 500 supporters at Hudson County Community College’s Culinary Arts Center. Healy was surrounded by a host of political all-stars when he made his announcement including Governor Jon Corzine, Newark Mayor Corey Booker, State Senators Richard Codey and Ray Lesniak.
Healy, who has been mayor since he won a special election in November 2004, spoke for over 10 minutes about his various accomplishments in office including putting more police officers on the streets, redeveloping Journal Square, and most recently introducing “green” practices for city government operations. He also invoked his slogan for his campaign, “Delivering Change We Can See”, during his speech.
“So as we start this campaign, all I ask is that you look around our great city,” Healy said. “See it with your own eyes and know that it’s not just campaign talk that Jersey City is moving forward, it is a reality.”
Healy is the fourth candidate who has made it known publicly that they are running for mayor including former State Assemblyman Louis Manzo, former City Councilman L. Harvey Smith and local activist Dan Levin. – Ricardo Kaulessar
