A group of artists and small business owners in a former leather tannery in downtown Hoboken don’t want to see their building torn down. So they have been fighting a developer’s plan to demolish it and build a mixed-use development. They say they’ve come up with their own plan that can keep the main building intact.
They were scheduled to finally present objections to the developer’s plan at a zoning hearing this past Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at City Hall, and also have released designs for their own plan.
In a press release, they said their “hybrid site plan” will:
• Restore Historic Buildings,
• Preserve 200+ Jobs in Arts & Industry Zone,
• Create New Open Public Space, and
• Generate New Development Opportunities.
