Dear Editor:
The recent ‘stimulus package’ passed by the Congress makes the coming May municipal elections in Jersey City and Hoboken even much more important to the people of Hudson County.
For years Hudson County has been controlled by a political leadership that has failed the people in every aspect of government. For too long the leadership of the Regular Democratic Organization (RDO) has used public office for self serving interests and for catering to those individuals and corporations who feed its campaign treasury. The philosophy of government under the present leadership is that of “Pay to Play” and let the people be damned.
Millions of dollars of federal funds form the ‘stimulus package’ will be allocated to Hudson County and municipalities in Hudson County. To allow these funds to be placed in the hands of the current leadership will be a disaster.
No one questions that the political leadership in Jersey City is a major factor as to the political and governmental leadership of the county. The present leadership in Jersey City is not only responsible for but is part and parcel of the county leadership. To continue with this leadership would be going from the frying pan into the fire.
The dialectics of political thinking has begun to change. Today one third of the county, the 33rd Legislative District, under the leadership of Union City Mayor and State Senator Brian Stack, is not under the control of the present county leadership. However, the present political structured in the county presents a roadblock to the philosophy of “Putting the People First!” Therefore, it becomes a necessity that there be a change in the philosophical and political leadership in Hudson County.
The answer as to how to achieve real change is the election of Louis Manzo as Mayor of Jersey City. Just imagine for one moment with the election of Louis Manzo as mayor of Jersey City he would then have a cooperating partner and in Brian Stack in providing government that will truly put the people first.
Therefore, I would not only urge the voters of Jersey City to come out in large numbers to vote for Louis Manzo, but I would urge those of us who do not live in Jersey City to support financially if we can, and to work as volunteers in the campaign to elect Louis Manzo. The RDO uses its resources (funds and workers) in the different municipal elections to support candidates who would be beholden to the RDO. We, as a people, have not only the right but the obligation to support those candidates who will “put the people first.” The time is now.
