Guttenberg – founded in 1859 – will celebrate its 150-year anniversary on March 9 with a celebration at the Anna L. Klein School on 69th Street.
The school, built in 1901, was chosen because of its integral role in the 4-by-12 block town’s history.
The event will kick off a year-long celebration that according to Mayor Gerald Drasheff, will hopefully include a parade, other small events and a fireworks display at the end of the summer.
Monday’s event will start at 9:30 a.m. at the school, where students will read excerpts on the town’s history and the school’s choir will sing patriotic songs. Another student will perform the “Star Spangled Banner” on her saxophone.
Hudson County politicians are expected to attend the event commemorating the town’s history, including U.S. Senator Robert Menendez and Congressman Albio Sires, who have confirmed their attendance.
Residents from Guttenberg are welcome to attend the event.
