Hoboken’s Elysian Park, which overlooks Maxwell Place on the Hudson, is aptly named. In Greek mythology the Elysian Fields or Elysian Plains are the final resting place for the souls of the heroic and virtuous. The park features a war memorial honoring our nation’s fallen heroes. Legend has it that on June 19, 1846, the first official organized baseball game was played, if not exactly on this spot, then where the old Maxwell House factory stood. Modern-day park goers can enjoy a kids’ playground, dog run, basketball court, and exquisite views of the Empire State Building and New York City skyline.
