L. Harvey Smith announced that he has voluntarily resigned from his position as an undersheriff with Hudson County to better devote his time and energy to his campaign for mayor of Jersey City.
“Campaigning for mayor is a full-time commitment, and I want there to be no doubt that I am in it to win it,” Smith said. “Jersey City is the city that I love. I cannot stand by and watch this city continue to go in the wrong direction. I am voluntarily relinquishing my job with the county, and foregoing my salary, county car, and all of the other perks of being an undersheriff so as to give my all to getting Jersey City back on the right track. I’m all in! My priority is serving people, not politicians, and I’m going to drive that message home from now until election day.”
