Nature captured through lensLocal photographer hosts month-long exhibit at the library

The Weehawken Public Library hosted the opening event on Wednesday for Weehawken resident photographer Jorge Chemas’ photo gallery exhibit “Nature and Wildlife,” which will be on display until March 30.
The collection of 34 photos features flora, animals, insects, and landscapes that Chemas has photographed over the last year and a half.
“I have always been a nature buff and I belong to many conservation [organizations],” said Chemas, who grew up in Popoya, Colombia near the Amazon jungle.

Beauty in Weehawken

A resident of Weehawken since the age of 22, Chemas has found his main source inspiration right in his neighborhood.

“I like to show people that everything I shoot is within 15 to 20 miles of Weehawken,” said Chemas.
According to Chemas, Weehawken is seeing the return of nature, including animals and plant life that had not bloomed in the area for many years.
“I love the way everything is coming back to its natural [state],” said Chemas.
A self-trained photographer with over 35 years’ experience, Chemas’ photographs can be found on his website www.jchemasphoto.com. According to his website, “Pictures teach us, educate us, inform us, and are part of our daily lives.”
Chemas’ photo exhibit will be on display through the remainder of the month at the Weehawken Public Library, located at 49 Hauxhurst Ave. For more information call the library at (201) 863-7823.
