The Hoboken Shelter needs your support

Dear Editor:
Since 1982, The Hoboken Shelter has been the only facility handling the needs of the adult homeless population of Hoboken. While it serves more than one million meals and provides shelter for more than 350,000 men and women, the shelter has also referred thousands of individuals to permanent housing as well as to alcohol and drug treatment programs through an extensive network of linkages with other organizations.
With its holistic approach, mission and goal to provide a safe haven for the homeless, it not only focuses on providing food and shelter but also serves the community with case management, counseling, job and life skills training, creative arts workshops, and emergency homelessness prevention grants. Incorporating these services, helps our homeless men and women in developing the skills needed to gain employment, achieve independence, and re-integrate into the community.
As residents of the Hoboken community sharing the same needs and wants as our fellow homeless counterparts, a pledge donation between $1-$5 per month will certainly help facilitate and secure the assistance the shelter provides in helping those who are not as fortunate as we are to attain a decent standard of living. Even as little as a recurring $1 per month can make a big difference.
According to Executive Director Jaclyn Cherubini, “The Hoboken Shelter needs the financial support from our community to continue to end homelessness one person at a time.” A pledge donation will not only go a long way to assure the homeless can have a better life but will also assist the shelter’s tireless efforts toward relief once and for all.

Respectfully,
Mattie Torres
