Voting runs from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. For information about polling locations, call the City Clerk’s Office at (201) 420-2074.
Layoff numbers released
Last week, City Attorney Steven Kleinman released final numbers that were included in a state-approved layoff plan. The city has state approval to demote two police captains, three lieutenants, and five sergeants, and to lay off six police officers. In the Fire Department, the city can demote four battalion chiefs and six captains.
The department of Health and Human Services is approved for six layoffs, the City Clerk is approved for one layoff, and non-uniformed Public Safety employees will see eight layoffs.
Kleinman said all layoffs scheduled to take place on May 22, except for police, which will take place on June 20. He also said the plan is subject to amendment, delay, or cancellation up to the scheduled date of layoff.
Brainstorming for uptown development
After speaking at a City Council about the possibility of a museum or some architecturally significant building on the northwest redevelopment site sought by the Rockefeller Group, resident Richard Pasquarelli has teamed up with Councilpersons Dawn Zimmer and Peter Cunningham to organize a public brainstorming session with noted architects SHoP.
SHoP architects designed the Garden Street Lofts green building on the corner or 14th and Bloomfield streets.
The meeting will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22 in the downstairs room of the Elks Club, 1005 Washington St.
Pasquarelli said it will be an open forum where the public can talk about the kinds of development they’d like to see on the site.
