Subpoenas given to Weehawken Housing Authority

Executive Director of the Weehawken Housing Authority Robert DiVincent confirmed last week that the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the governing body for public housing, has issued subpoenas to the Weehawken Housing Authority.
He said the subpoenas were for information related to contracts the authority had entered into. However, he denied rumors that some sort of criminal investigation was being conducted. DiVincent said he was “confident” that nothing illegal had transpired at the housing authority.
A HUD official in Newark said investigations of possible fraudulent activity are handled by the Inspector General’s Office in New York.
A spokesperson for the Inspector General’s Office did not return phone calls by press time.
