BRANDES, LOUIS

A funeral mass was celebrated May 18 at Holy Family Church, Union City, for Louis Brandes, 93. He died peacefully at home on May 13. Family and friends will remember him for the gentle strength and dignity with which he lived his long life. A lifelong resident of Union City, he was the proprietor of Lemonier Men’s Shop on Bergenline Avenue, for more than 30 years, before retiring in 1983. He was a veteran of World War II and had served as a member of the U.S. Army Air Force in the Pacific theater. He belonged to VFW Post 453. A parishioner of Holy Family Church, he was an active member of the Holy Family Lyceum and the Holy Name Society. He had also worked on the Passion Play. Louis was predeceased by Eleanor, his wife of 63 years, and is survived by his daughter, Barbara, of Union City; a sister, Ruth Muller, of Toms River; and nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his sister, Dorothy and his brothers, George, August, and Paul. Services arranged by the Leber Funeral Home, Union City.
