AMATO, MICHAEL

A funeral mass was offered May 14 at St. Paul the Apostle Church for Michael Amato, 76. He died May 10 at Jersey City Medical Center. The lifelong Jersey City resident was the son of the late Philomena (Arnone) and John Amato. He was a proprietor of the Michael Amato Agency, New York City. He was a theatrical talent agent for 30 years. He personally counted Joan Fontaine, Connie Francis and Telly Savalas as personal friends. He was a member of the Hudson County Animal League. He befriended strays in his neighborhood and was attentive to their well-being. He was a contributor to various political and municipal organizations. As an activist, he received the Key to the City from former Mayor Bret Schundler. He was the brother of Joseph Amato, Jennie Miceli, Mary Scerbo and the late Frank, Anthony and Frances Amato. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Services arranged by the Greenville Memorial Home, Jersey City.
