Here are the results in the Hoboken and Jersey City elections. Provisional ballots have not been counted.
In Jersey City, incumbent Mayor Jerramiah Healy was well in the lead as of last count (see below) and may even have squeaked just far enough ahead to win without a runoff. Former Assemblyman Louis Manzo was the nearest candidate behind him.
In Hoboken, Peter Cammarano and Dawn Zimmer will go to a runoff on June 9. Cammarano and Zimmer’s vote counts were quite close (see below).
Hoboken third-place finisher Beth Mason, who once had more name recognition than Zimmer, appears to have lost ground during a bitter campaign in which she made some decisions that confused her supporters. Specifically, certain alliances of hers and votes regarding development and the Church Towers tax abatement appeared to alienate prominent members of a vocal taxpayers’ group.
Absentee ballots and provisionals still need to be counted.
Interestingly, Zimmer’s council slate wound up well ahead of the other mayoral candidates’ slates in Hoboken.
